It's summer time and the shooting is breezy! We had wonderful weather for our June monthly shoot and over a dozen shooters on the line to enjoy it. The overall match was won by that steely eyed shooter Herbert Pugh with high score. However Herbert also won the not-so-coveted Dry Ball Award as well, despite his valiant attempt at keeping quiet about it. Dale Saul briefly held the questionable honor from the Curmedgeon Gerry Harris before yeilding it to Herbert. We had a couple of members join us whom we had not seen in a while and it was great to have them back on the range. Good fun with good freinds. The Family Frolic and Rendezvous was a great success despite the heat and humidity. The pistol woodswalk was a lot of fun with one target shutting out every shooter except youngster Annsley Pugh who drilled it dead center. We also initiated a new award which was 'won' by Mike Hale who can be called as 'Skunkman' until someone else wins the award next year. Congrats Mike! The regular woodswalk was very well attended - in fact, with the exception of the Booshway, a couple of kids, two shooters who were not feeling well from the heat and one non-shooting wife - the entire camp was in the woods and shooting. Now that is total involvement! That fact proved to be rather impressive to a visitor when he came by to check out the Frolic. The camp feast was amazing with food of all manner and tastes. What super cooks we have in camp. The candle light shoot again dazzled as flames spewed downrange and lit up the night. Wow - it is an impressive sight to watch. Our 'Poor Boy' Blue Jacket for both rifle and knife on Sunday was both amazing and funny as the competition got interesting. (To understand fully, you need to come out next year and watch.) Overall the Frolic was tremendous fun and many thanks go out to everyone who helped out with prizes, target assistance, food donations, willing hands and helpful spirits. Coming up next is our more informal Labor Day mini-vous. This event is a little more laid back, but still with a lot of shooting. On Saturday will be the smoothbore woodswalk with both shot and round ball targets. We'll also have a presentation on the Fur Trade. On Sunday will be a two-shooter team woodswalk for both smoothbore and rifle, but they'll also need a pistol and tomahawk as well. Be ready for unique challenges on this woodwalk - including moving targets, timed shooting and fur trader skill demonstration. Monday will be shooting on the range and the Pie Tin Blue Jacket shoot for smoothbores. See the flyer for more detailed information. We look forward to seeing friends old and new as they join us in camp for a rousing good time. See you there and the coffee pot is always on.
